Television - Internet
Shows as an experience
Television shows There are a variety of different shows which are shown on TV which are within different genres from drama to comedy.
Television shows such as 'The peep show' has a strong genre set to the separate shows within the series, which is comedy/drama. The show itself is based around 2 main characters and is set out in a series of different shows during each series, which usually tend to follow after each other much like other shows.
Other shows such as game shows / quiz shows etc are set out in a different format whereby they are not usually in a series, unless they carry on from one show to another such as who wants to be a millionaire which sometimes pauses during the show and then the show carries on into the 2nd show / episode.
TV drama shows such as Eastenders are set out in a more structured way, whereby each episode carries on from the other in order to make up a series of episodes. Also within the separate episodes there are a set amount of characters within the scenes and sometime introducing new ones into the series now and again. Internet Shows Internet shows differ from TV shows in some ways but are very similar also.
A good example of a show online is: 'LIVING WITH THE INFIDELS' which is a fairly popular internet show / series which has had over 3000 views which is good considering it is a niche web-series online and is not know that well. The structure of this web-series is closely linked to the structure of a normal TV show / series.
There are a variety of differences between shows online and on TV. The main difference between them is of course the format of which the shows are broadcast. (Internet and TV).
Shown below are a list of differences between the two:
- Audience numbers (Shows on the TV reach a much wider audience whereas internet shows reach a much smaller audience which is mostly due to the niche nature of many internet shows)
- The experience differs due to the actual format of which the shows themselves are shown to the audience. for example on TV the shows are usually watched as a collective audience. (family . friends) whereas people who watch shows online watch them either alone or with their friends which of course is a smaller audience collective compared with TV audiences.
- The range of shows and the time of which they are shown is an issue and difference also. The times at which shows are broadcast on tV is 'fixed' and on the internet shows are available 24-7 for people to see (unless they are within a series and people have to wait for the next episode etc) but in usual terms they are available to watch any time the audience desires.
