Show Project - Minutes from the 2nd meeting (2nd half)

In the 2nd half of todays lesson, the group were split up into 2 sepearte groups. One group was the script writting group, and the other was the mearketing group. I was a part of the script writting group during the 1st session then after wards I swapped between the groups and I went into the marketing group and Dave went into the script writting group.

After observing each group as director and also sharing my view with my fellow students, I discoverd a variety of advantages and dis-advantages with spilitting the group in half and instead of into role groups within one single class room, shown below are the advantages and dis-advantages of todays working method / meeting.

Advantages of working in 2 seperate groups and also the meeting today:

  • Less work load as it was shared between the two groups
  • There was more room for people to think
  • Each group knew exactly what they need to do and get done
Dis-advantages of working in 2 seperate groups and also the meeting today:

  • Arguments were caused between the two groups due to disagreements over the script
  • Un-organised planning ment that it was harder to get the work flowing
  • People were keeping to their own ideas, instead of taking into account other peoples thoughts / ideas
  • Lack of comunication between the two groups
  • Lack of work at the end of the session (maybe could of done more if more organised from the start)

After the meetings today I have realised that the group is getting on well with the task, but the meetings are still not as well organised as they possibly could be, but with any meeting in the work industry, from the start they are usually not very well organised and tend not to be perfect but as time goes on they improve, and that is what I believe will happen. Due to this learning style being new to myself and my fellow class mates every one is getting to grips with it, and therefore is just adapting to the working style, which is fine, and of course I have 100% confidence that as time goes on the class will all pull together and get the project done.

As far as my role goes within todays meetings, I strongly believe that in future meetings I will try and organise more smaller project for each role / group to do so taht people have a few more points / ideas for their blogs and also for the actual video itself. For example I could have a discussion with Dave and see weather he would be willing to work with me and organise some smaller projects so that when, at any point a member of the team has nothing to do then we can easily say, well ok we have this for you to do etc.

Another item that I relaised I need to addres within the next meeting is make sure every one is 100% confident on what it is they have to do, because today many people seemed unsure as to what to do, and this is no-ones fault at all, but it is as i said before the fact that we are adapting to this new project which is perfectly fine to me, and everyone including myself will get the hang of it soon enough. From the roles / check lists that I asked people to produce today, I will ask people next time weather they could expand apon them so that as a class we can sort out a timetable of what needs doing and when, so that it will be more organised and also easier for people to see what they have to do in order to complete this project.

Overall I believe todays meetings went as ok as they could be, but there of course were some down sides / negative points, which were matters such as: lack of organisation, lack or comunication, possible lack of ideas for what people can do, and also team work could do with slight improvement, but as i stated before this will all come in time, and we are of course adapting to this new project and getting the feel for it as this is only the start, but we as a class do need to keep in mind that it is a very tight time frame so work does need to move at a reasonable pace during the lessons.
